"Reading maketh a full man" This long standing adage speaks to a truth that is universally accepted. At St. John's Primary, the implementation of a Resource Room is geared towards addressing the problem of illiteracy. Our Resource or Reading Room came on stream in April 1998 and is presently catering to over 30 students, drawn from Grades 2-6. Students are referred to the Resource Room by their class teachers. Each pupil is then assessed using the Mico Diagnostic Reading Test to determine his/her functional level. Pupils are grouped accordingly then the therapy begins. Through our Resource Room and as we strive for excellence, St. John's is doing its part to stamp out illiteracy from our society. Contributor Maxine Dean |
