Welcome to St. John’s Primary. We take pleasure in welcoming you to our school. We hope that you will find the information, educational and stimulating.
School ProfileSt. John's Primary School operates on a shift system. It is located on the lower St. John's plain in the South Central part of St. Catherine. It is situated on the St. John's Road about three kilometers from Spanish Town. St. John's Primary was built by the government on land owned leased from the Roman Catholic Church. The school opened it's doors to the first set of students on September 3, 1973. There were nine hundred and sixty one (961) students, seventeen (17) teachers including the principal, Mrs. Allen and three National Youth Service workers. The school population grew steadily and stood at approximately seventeen hundred (1700). In 1991 we experienced a dramatic change from straight day to a shift system. Our population presently is eighteen hundred and sixty-five (1865) students, 1 principal, two (2) vice-principals, fifty-one (51) teachers, two (2) guidance counsellors, a librarian and one secretary. Since 1975 we have been participating in the annual Festival Competition in the areas of Speech, Dance and Music. Each year we have been the happy recipients of numerous certificates and medals. Our greatest achievement was when we won the Prime Minister's trophy for speech and a National gold in dance. "EXCELLENCE" is our hallmark. The teachers of St. John's continue to work tirelessly in order for our children to maximize their potential. The academic achievements of our children attest to this. Over the years, we have received several scholarships and awards. We are currently the reading champion in the Western St. Catherine Principals' Association zone. Our students excel in athletics, football, cricket, and basketball. Indeed, we believe in nurturing well rounded individuals. With hard work and determination we will continue to strive for EXCELLENCE.
